We can also deliver a polished concrete effect with a specialist Trowel-X finish for premium results. Our microcement installers can diamond polish the surface to achieve a refined satin sheen. Whether you’re looking for modern style, an industrial vibe or a truly unique finish, then Options 4 Surfaces has the expertise to bring your vision to life.

Microcement is applied in thin layers, with a final thickness of around 3-4mm. Each layer is meticulously hand-trowelled, allowing for flawless and smooth results every time.

Microcement is water-resistant, meaning it has waterproof properties. This is thanks to the polymers within the microcement. They reduce porosity, which is commonly associated with traditional cement. However, microcement needs to be sealed in order for it to be truly non-porous.

Our microcement applications are available in a wide range of different colours and finishes, meaning you’ll be able to choose the perfect microcement shade and texture that will effortlessly suit your taste and style. Allowing for flexible customisation, we have a complete colour chart for you to choose from.

We will always conduct a full and thorough site survey for all of our confirmed clients, whether it be for domestic or commercial applications. During the survey, we will check the strength of the substrate, spot any potential issues or snags and then confirm that there’s access to power, water and the site itself. It lays the foundations for a smooth-running project that delivers impressive results.

Sealing microcement is essential for ensuring its waterproof properties and unrivalled durability. Essentially, it provides an additional protective layer, allowing it to be used in high-traffic areas, kitchens, bathrooms and other living spaces. The sealing process starts with impregnating a pre-sealer into the surface.

This is a breathable, water-based formula crafted from acrylic and polyurethane. It coats the tiny pores and quartz grains in the top layer, subtly enhancing the microcement’s colour while ensuring a matte finish. This makes the microcement surface resistant to water and oil-based stains whilst simultaneously strengthening the microcement, allowing it to be more resistant to everyday wear and tear.

The next step involves applying two or three coats of an advanced topical coating sealer, which is breathable and water-based, that adheres to the pre-sealed surface, providing another layer of durable protection. This topical sealer is what gives microcement its enhanced colour and shine. Not only does it look stunning, but it’s easy to maintain, too.

Like any surface, microcement requires proper care and maintenance to remain in top condition. This includes sealing it correctly and cleaning it appropriately, refraining from using abrasive tools and chemicals. When applied, sealed and cared for correctly, microcement will make for a durable material that will be able to withstand everyday wear and tear, including scuffs, scrapes and scratches. In addition to its maintenance, you should also take advice from microcement installers and professionals. They will be able to give you more information about how to look after your microcement walls, floors and other surfaces.

Yes, microcement can be applied over heated screeds or concrete slabs. Engineered with advanced polymers, they offer the flexibility needed to accommodate the subtle movements caused by temperature changes. Microcement is laid at just 3-4mm thick, making it efficient when it comes to heat transfer. As such, it outperforms traditional materials, like tiles or timber flooring.

To allow for maximum efficiency, your underfloor heating system needs to be set up properly to prevent cracks in the screed or slabs beneath the microcement. In addition, ensure the water temperature at the heating manifold remains below 35 degrees Celsius, as this could also lead to cracks or cause damage to the sealer. For more information about microcement and underfloor heating, consult a microcement specialist here at Options 4 Surfaces.

Our microcement installers usually take around two to five days, depending on the size of the project at hand. It could run over five days depending on factors like drying and curing time, the number of coats applied and the sealing process. It can be rather labour-intensive, and it also requires careful preparation and precise application to achieve a flawless finish. Attention to detail is key, which is why it can, sometimes, overrun. The majority of the time, however, it takes around two to five days to complete a microcement project.

Options 4 Surfaces are always up to meeting the ever-changing demands of the construction industry, where delays, schedule adjustments and design modifications are common. With our exceptional ability to adapt, we can frequently apply microcement to floors and walls at different stages of the project. This flexibility allows us to deliver polished results, regardless of the timeline. Although for optimal results, microcement application should take place in clean, dry and weather-tight environments falling between 10-30 degrees Celsius.

Microcement surfaces are designed with standstand high-traffic areas in both domestic and commercial settings. However, it’s not completely immune to damage if subjected to deliberate or excessive force. In the unlikely event that your microcement surface dents, it’s likely down to high temperatures softening the polymers, so avoid exposing the microcement surface to heat, if you can help it, such as when microcement is applied over underfloor heating.

Maintaining and cleaning microcement is straightforward. To keep it in top condition, regularly use a microfibre mop to effectively remove dust and debris from sealed microcement surfaces.
